Invasion of Southern California by Red Bug Scantius

Dear friend: I am publishing a paper (attached) on the invasion of Southern California by this bug. Here it seems to be tightly associated with the plant Malva parviflora (Common name Cheeseweed, because the seed pods look like cheeses), and the bugs feed on the seeds. It is native to many parts of Europe, so I am writing to ask whether any of you have come across it, and if so what plant it associates with over there. Here are some pictures of it:http://nathistoc.bio.uci.edu/hemipt/Lodosiana%20aegyptius.htm...and a newspaper article about it:http://greenoc.freedomblogging.com/2009/08/03/red-bug-makes-first-american-appearance-in-oc/11179/Now I REALLY need some help with this project. We are trying to study the genetics of this invasion, and we need to get some samples of the bug from places in Europe where it might have originated. If you are able to find any, please put them (at least 20, if possible) in the freezer and let me know, and I will send further instructions. Please forward this to anybody who might know the answers or be able to help! Thanks!Peter Bryant
